Not For Sale - Issue 383

What do you do when, in many cases, the thing you want to “buy” isn’t being “sold”?

People tend to hold onto the great things in life and they are almost never easily available when you want them.  The most desirable things, whether it's a dream home or a highly skilled employee, often aren't readily available in the conventional sense. They are cherished and held onto by those who possess them.

To acquire valuable assets requires initiative, courage, and persuasive abilities. You need to be willing to seek out opportunities and approach individuals or situations that may not be obvious or easily accessible. Additionally, you need to be skilled in presenting your case and convincing others of the benefits of what you're offering.

This perspective encourages proactive behavior and highlights the importance of determination and effective communication in achieving one's goals. It's a reminder that sometimes, the best things in life require effort, initiative, and a willingness to step outside of your comfort zone.

This is most evident when the markets are turbulent and harbour a lot of fear.  The real estate market is brutal at the moment.  The current economic and political climate has pushed the real estate market to the back of everyone’s mind.

That doesn’t mean people aren’t prepared to buy or sell. It means we need to get creative, identify the opportunities and demonstrate the benefits that opportunity provides.

I’m reminded of a situation I encountered in the massive recession that we encountered back in the early 90's. Buyer's weren’t buying. They were overwhelmed and not motivated to buy.

We didn’t have Realtor.ca or any online portals to show off listings. In fact, our brokerage at the time used to mount colour photos of the interior and exterior of the home on a 24 x 24  plastic board (we called them property boards) and would display them in the brokerage window and open houses.

I had been bugging my mechanic at the time that he should be taking advantage of the market and move to a bigger home closer to his shop.  I just happened to “forget” a few of those property boards in the front seat of my car when it went in for service.  One in particular caught his attention and with a bit of effort, it wasn’t soon before he was the proud owner of a new home and we had a nice starter home that sold quickly.

I’m seeing a lot of agents and clients frustrated and fearful in this market. The tactics and strategies in the market just aren’t working like they used to.

The agents that get creative, dig into the challenges and show their true skills will become even more dominant and in high demand as this real estate market persists.  The more this market struggles, the higher and faster the best agents will rise to the top.  I’m confident that our brokerage has some of the best out there and we are aggressively recruiting the other top agents that should be part of our market centre.

Great homes and great agents aren’t always on the market when you want them.  We’re all about rising to the challenges of this market.

Let’s do this.
