This Friday kicks off the start of a much anticipated long weekend!

While this weekend marks Queen Victoria’s birthday, this weekend also holds many other meanings. For many people, this weekend marks the beginning of warmer temperatures, the unofficial start of cottage season, and the first real taste of summer!

So what are you doing this weekend?


There are plenty of local events going on this weekend! Keep reading to find out 5 local events that are happening in the region this weekend!

1. Goods Exchange Weekend

The May long weekend is known for being Goods Exchange Weekend, a weekend where people put items out on the curb for FREE! Keep your eyes open as you drive around neighbourhoods this weekend to see what great deals you can find - or maybe even put out some things of your own!


2. Guelph Horticultural Society Plant Sale

The Guelph Farmers’ Market is always a cool place to drop in on the weekend - and this weekend is extra special! The Guelph Horticultural Society is putting on a Perennial Plant sale from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 21st at the Farmer’s Market - come on out to enjoy the beautiful plants and support the Horticultural Society!


3. Aberfoyle Antique Market

With 60+ years of business, the Aberfoyle Antique Market has many vendors selling collectibles, art, furniture, and more! The market is just south of Guelph and is open Sunday from 8:00 - 4:00 pm. The market happens rain or shine, so even if it rains, you’ll have something fun to do. Bring the whole family to see what cool antiques you can find!


4. Elora Plein Air Festival

This annual painting festival celebrates the charm and warmth of Elora! Since Thursday, artists have been coming together to paint outdoors in Fergus & Elora, and on Sunday, May 21st, the artists are ready to share and celebrate their artwork! Come by the Elora Centre for the Arts at 75 Melville Street, Elora, between 12:00 - 5:00 pm to view the artists galleries, vote on your favourite for the People’s Choice award, and maybe even find a painting to bring home with you. What a unique way to celebrate your local community!


5. An Evening of Wine & Murder at the Elora Distilling Company

Come on down to the Elora Distilling Company on Saturday, May 20th to enjoy a fun evening in the cocktail lounge narrowing down suspects to solve a murder! Tickets are $40 and include the purchase of one beverage. The doors open at 6:30 PM with the event beginning at 7:00 PM. This is a great event for mystery buffs, as well as a fantastic opportunity to tour the beautiful Elora Distilling Company and try some locally crafted drinks!
