Perhaps you have heard the saying that only 20% of Realtors® are the ones that actually do 80% of the business. The Real Estate business has always been competitive - for buyers, sellers, and for Realtors®!

Realtors® have to work hard to find serious buyers and sellers, and then work even harder to help them actually buy or sell successfully. This process can be a tough one, and isn’t always as smooth of a ride as all parties involved would like.

So how do you find that 20% that are running a successful business and will actually help you achieve your Real Estate goals?

The answer is simple: interview, interview, interview!

It is crucial to interview multiple agents to ensure that you are working with someone who has the skills & experience best suited to your needs - and that they are a good fit for you!

Here are four questions you should be asking to be sure you are working with a Realtor® who is right for you!

What Separates You From Your Competition?

Agents are a dime a dozen - but that 20% of successful Realtors® is much harder to find. It is important to know what makes your Realtor® unique - maybe that is the community they are a part of, what their client base looks like, or the way they run their business! By knowing what makes your Realtor® stand out, it will be clear what unique benefits they will be able to provide you as a client.


Do You Have Any References?


The best agents are not the ones chasing after the top dollar, but the ones who are customer focused. And who knows that better than past clients? People, just like houses, are unique, so someone who understands both is a Realtor® you want working with you. If you can find an agent who has flawless reviews from their past clients, you can be confident that your experience will be just as great!

What Do Your Resources Look Like?

How will they reach potential buyers? If you are buying, how are they going about searching for properties that match your needs?


It is crucial to understand all the resources your agent can provide you with so that you can fully trust that they are doing all they can to either sell your house for top dollar OR to find you an affordable home that checks all the boxes.


How Well Do You Know the Area?

Local agents will have a much better understanding of Local Market trends, allowing them to know what is a reasonable price & be able to price your home competitively. You’ve heard the importance of “location, location, location” - who would know the local location better than a local agent?

Local agents will also know other local contacts that they might be able to refer you to - people like movers, lawyers, or mortgage brokers they trust. Local Realtors® will know their area and all the local hidden gems in the area - neighbourhoods and homes that out-of-town agents wouldn’t know!


After asking your Realtor® these crucial questions, you should feel 100% confident in your choice of who is representing you & your best interests. 

Don’t forget that your agent works for you! As a client, you should be at ease with your Realtor® and be confident that they are doing the best job you could ask for - and don’t settle for less!
